Thin Line Training and Consultation
After many years working on the front line of trauma intervention with colleagues in first response, health care and social service work, Susan developed a special interest in developing curriculum focused on managing the personal impact of trauma work.
Our intervention and reactions with traumatic situations that our clients and patients face often leave a repetitive strain on the front line worker that we can be very aware of or not. It is often a very “thin line” between how we are functioning and reacting to the work and what the experience is of the people we seek to help.
If our reactions are not kept in check, the potential exists to cause harm to our professional worlds and our personal worlds. Self awareness is key in providing effective first response and trauma intervention. Developing our own Occupational Stress Management Plan is highly valued as an ongoing, evolving professional skill set.Susan offers half day and full day workshops to organizations, peer consult teams and crisis intervention teams and those who interface with traumatic human experiences.
Often, the focus of Occupational Stress is directed at those who are seen as providing the most direct service – police officers, fire fighters, paramedics, emergency response, etc. However it is also those involved in indirect trauma work who are the “forgotten” front line trauma workers; the court recorders, front office reception, social service providers, shelter workers, anti-violence, anti-poverty and anti-rasicm advocates, veterinary clinic workers, to name a few. When considering who, in your organization, is impacted by front line work…it is important to remember all support team members in the system.
Thin Line Training also provides consultation to Peer Support Teams and First Response/Front Line Trauma organizations in managing the occupational stress and health of their staff. Currently, Live Webinar formats provide the opportunity for interactive discussion and developing personal plans for managing Occupational Stress. In person training sessions are also available and dependent upon local health unit recommendations during the COVID19 Pandemic.
